Editor Brandon Porter & Director Morgan Cooper joined forces to create “State of America,” a contemporary visual expression about black existence in today’s United States.
The visceral piece unfolds the journey of a black boy moving through the chaotic American landscape into his manhood, crafted by Porter from existing footage Cooper had shot of his nephew and close friends. Set to a poem written & performed by Royalty, with music by Nicholas Britell from If Beale Street Could Talk, we’re all asked the question, “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for who?”
